As most people who love watches will know, the term complication refers to any additional feature to a timepiece other than hours, minutes and seconds display.

Working at Marcus Watches, I am quite fortunate that I get to play with some of the most amazing timepieces the world of Haute Horology produces. This includes many split second chronographs, or world timers, tourbillons and minute repeaters. Sometimes (although not too often) I can almost get slightly blasé about the value or the complexity of the pieces I’m holding. But every now and then something comes into the store that is extra special, something that rekindles my boyish excitement for watches all over again.

One of these magical pieces is the Grande Complication Royal Oak Offshore by Audemars Piguet. Now Marcus – both the man and the company – have a huge history with AP, and as such when this new model was launched, two pieces came to the boutique. The Rose gold skeleton version and a previously unreleased solid Mega Tapisserie dial in titanium, both limited to only 3 pieces worldwide and – thanks to our relationship with the brand – both are piece number one.

These Grande Complications are a great example of modern day technologies and materials blending together with traditional watchmaking ideals. Coupled with the real limited edition number, these are truly special and great collectors pieces. Oh, and not to mention – they look pretty damn awesome too!
