While this year’s Baselworld is still a few short weeks away, a handful of watchmakers have given us a preview of what’s to come later this month in Basel. Until the show officially opens its doors on March 17th, take a sneak-peek at our most anticipated new releases.
1 Girard-Perregaux 1966 Skeleton
As the model name suggests, The Girrard-Perregaux 1966 Skeleton is a transparent showstopper. The anti-reflective sapphire crystal case of the new piece reveals the in-house movement GP01800-0006, a mechanical labyrinth comprised of 173 components. Due to its non-existent dial, an outer ring has suspended hour markers. The hand-stitched alligator strap compliments the 38 mm pink gold case.
2 Harry Winston Premier Moon Phase 36mm
The in-house HW5201 quartz movement powers this elegant timepiece, which displays the lunar cycle, hours, minutes and the date. The moon’s movement can be viewed through a crescent-shaped opening, while the hour and minutes are indicated by beveled hands. The date is indicated at 6 o’clock through an open circle, decorated with a yellow gold border. The mother-of-pearl dial, with its contrasting colors and ornate design motifs, completes the look of the piece beautifully.
3 Hublot Big Bang Unico Sapphire
With this new piece, Hublot suspends the Unico movement in a transparent sapphire case, making each part of the mechanism completely visible. To create a case middle, bezel and back completely crafted from sapphire, a material that’s almost as hard and scratch-resistant as diamond, Hublot called on the expertise of a Swiss specialist as part of an exclusive partnership.
4 Ulysse Nardin Hourstriker “Horse” Limited Edition
A sonnerie en passant with an exceptional automatic movement, the Hourstriker Horse plays on the hour, the half hour and on demand. There is also an option to set it to “gong” mode. The piece features a black onyx dial with hand-carved Jaquemarts that perform in concert. The round case of the timepiece is sized at 42 mm and the watch comes with a power reserve of 42 hours.
5 Hermès Slim d’Hermès Mille Fleurs du Mexique
A beautiful watch that features a miniature painting on a mother-of-pearl backdrop, the Slim d’Hermès Mille Fleurs du Mexique is a six piece limited edition inspired by a Hermès silk scarf designed by Mexican graphic designer Laetitia Bianchi. The piece is powered by the in-house H1950 movement and comes with a smooth green alligator strap and a white gold case.
